OPEN CALL FOR PHOTOS, IMAGES, POEMS, AND SHORT ESSAYS ABOUT THE RECESSION /// 4.15.09 Submission Deadline
http://www.recessionnationproject.com/
The Recession Nation Project is a book of photos, short essays and poems about the recession.
Recession or no recession, the current economic situation is stirring up dust all around us. This project is meant to capture and share a multi-perspective, mixed media, insightful, shared and visual response to this dust and its consequences.
If nothing else, this project will be an interesting experiment about what happens when technology, social networking, modern on-demand printing, art, design and social responsibility come together.
Every penny will be donated to help those hardest hit by the recession, the poor.
Every penny means every penny. It’s that simple. All time to create and market the book will be donated and there won’t be any inventory or warehousing costs since the book will be printed on-demand and sold through a website.
All profits (book price – printing cost – shipping = all profit) will be donated to Feeding America, The United Way, and the National Alliance to End Homelessness.
We decided to do this project for a number of reasons, but most of all we are doing this work because it matters. Sure, there are a million ways to help but we have felt compelled to leverage our time and skills through this project, right here, right now. We have the skill, network and elbow grease to make this happen.
Project Format
10×8″ full color image, short essay and poem book, 80 lbs paper, and soft cover.

I am looking for art competitions for our 14 year old son Cody. He draws cartoons, manga, fantasy, etc. I looked at your site and must not be looking in the right area.
Thank you.

OPEN CALL FOR CELL PHONE VIDEOS
apexart is requesting short cell phone videos that you just had to take, be it last month or last year. Whether propelled by a sense of voyeurism, a sincere desire to connect, or to record that odd scene, those moments are an intimate snapshot of the city's inhabitants that capture a larger message about a city's ethos, and we want to show them to others. Whether you live in London, Tokyo or beyond, we invite you to email us videos taken in the streets of your big city that capture these moments.
After the submission deadline, apexart will choose a selection to screen during a public program on September 24, 2008. This screening will take place in conjunction with SCRAWL, an exhibition by collector and curator Harley Spiller that features close to 100 mostly anonymous handmade pronouncements collected from the streets and subways of New York City over the past 25 years.
To apply please email the following on or before Wednesday, September 10:
-Name, e-mail, home address and video to info@apexart.org with subject line OPEN CALL
-A brief description of the video and its date of capture
Note: Submissions accepted from around the world
